About Us

Radio Fiji Mirchi is Canada’s first Hindi & Fiji’s only 24hr radio station. This station was launched on Canada Day, July 1st, 2009 and is getting popular with each passing day. It is also a subcarrier of CBC’s French channel CBUF 97.7 FM. Our signal is also transmitted on 89.1 FM on a regular dial.

The birth of Radio Fiji Mirchi can be traced 35 years back when a 5 year old started playing with 2 cassette recorders, one with music in the background and the other with his own voice recording; an imagination of an actual radio station broadcast. Rockin’ Rakesh has been on the air in BC for the last 20 years. He completed his Diploma in 1987 for Radio, TV and Broadcasting Arts at Columbia Academy for Radio, TV and Recording Arts on West Broadway in Vancouver. Then, in 1985 through 1986, he gained some experience from Radio Fiji.

Rakesh has also done Radiothons and Telethons for United Way, BC Children’s Hospitals, Handiya Baba Children’s Hospital, Indonesia 2004 tsunami Radiothon, Pakistan Disaster Radiothon, Fiji Flood Victims 1999 & 2009.

With over 20 years in the making, now Rockin' Rakesh presents Radio Fiji Mirchi. Radio Fiji Mirchi is heard throughout the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, Blaine and Bellingham Washington. We broadcast 24 hours a day with a variety of Hindi music, talk & game shows, public service announcements, promotional & advertising, traffic, weather & etc. A recent survey has confirmed that apart from Fiji Islands, majority of Fiji Indians population in the World reside in Vancouver BC. There are over 100,000 in BC, hence, our radio station is the most listened station amongst the Fijians and Hindi speaking audience.

Just in one year, our radio station has been touching the hearts of people who base their origin from India, Pakistan, Africa and Fiji, regardless of who may have been born or lived elsewhere in the world. Our aim is to provide quality entertainment and some educational programming for the South Asian Community and to aid in keeping our tradition and culture alive especially amongst our youth. Till this date we have sold over 14,500 receivers for homes and vehicles and thus covering more than 70% of the Fiji Indians population & as well a significant percentage of the South Asian community.

Radio Fiji Mirchi is now ready for the world with just one “Stick” away. On our completion of our 1st anniversary, we introduced our RFM USB Transmitter. With the help of our USB sticks, now you can listen to us anywhere in the world. With just such a small addition to our line of products, we are greatly expanding our listenership and reaching to a wider coverage area to provide with the same quality of entertainment, along with the same promotional opportunities.
